Shern-Min Chow Honored

Asia Houston Network hosted a luncheon honoring Shern-Min Chow for her 15th anniversary as a media personality in Houston and for her effort to build bridges between Asian-Americans and other groups in Houston. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Imperial Ballroom. Former Mayor Bob Lanier and his wife Elyse were Honorary Chairs of the event.

The attendees included Shern-Min’s husband Bob Hardy, Congressman Chris Bell, Mayor Lee Brown, Channel 11 General Manager Peter Diaz, John Chiang, Ned Holmes, Former City Council member Orlando Sanchez, Eugene and Bridgitte Lee, Joe Ting, Charles and Lily Foster, Mickey and Debbie Driver, Dan Nip, George Gee, City Council Member Bruce Tatro, Chinese Consul General Hu Yeshun, Indonesian Consul General Talib Puspokusumo, Jane Cummins, Alice and Mark Lee, Channel 11 Reporter Jeff McShan, Channel 13 Anchor Melanie Lawson, Channel 39 News Director Joe Nolan, Jie Willey, Jim Boyles, John Boyles, Peter Brown, Felix and Nellie Fraga, Shelley Johnson, Stephanie Le, Patty Joiner, Kim Soo, Graeme Cox, Judge Tom Testa, and Michael Testa.

Dinner Honoring Grandmaster Kim Soo

Grandmaster Kim Soo, founder of Chayon-Ryu Martial Arts, was honored at a dinner for the 35th anniversary of Kim Soo Karate in Houston. The event was held at Massa's Restaurant. Grandmaster Kim Soo, who came to Houston in 1968, is a true example of the American dream-come-true.

Mayor Brown and First Lady Frances Brown presented a proclamation to Grandmaster Kim.  Frances Brown took karate from Grandmaster Kim in the mid '80s. City Councilman Mark Goldberg, a former karate student in the 80's, also presented a letter from Governor Perry to Grandmaster Kim. City Councilman Michael Berry sent his aide Carl Davis to present a congratulatory certificate.

Other attendees included Korean Deputy Consul General Lee Gun-Tae, Aron Frank, Reginald Hughes, Leroy Burkholder, Graeme Cox, Erin Sloan, Doren Bernard, Ray Nelson, Dr. Elizabeth Dial, Carl Frost, David Mitchell, Robert McLane, R.H.
