Peter Chang, M.D.Dr. Peter Chang is a board certified cardiologist who has been in practice in the Houston area for close to 20 years. Dr. Chang completed his undergraduate study at Rice University which was then followed by a M.D. degree from University of Texas Medical School as well as a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from Rice University. Dr. Chang was the first cardiologist in Houston to provide external counterpulsation therapy (ECP) which is a new highly effective and noninvasive treatment for patients with CAD, and he currently serves as the president of ECP Center of Texas. Dr. Chang's commitment to the Houston community is demonstrated through his service as former President of Chinese Health Service Center which provides free medical care to indigent, elderly Chinese-Americans, co-founder and medical director of the largest Chinese-American annual health fair for the last 20 years and serving on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. Dr. Chang is also interested in the cultural aspect of the local community and has served as chief editor of "Southern Monthly" in the early 70's which was the most widely circulated Chinese monthly magazine in Southern USA at the time. He is the founder of Whirlwind Drama Club which produced the first Chinese-speaking play in Southern USA and director of its first dramatic production, organizer of the first summer camp for Chinese-American college students in Texas and founder of the first Chinese Classical Instrumental Music Society in Southern USA. Dr. Chang always believes that active participation is the only way to get your voice heard in this great nation. In addition to being actively involved in political campaigns at the local, state and federal levels with his wife, Judge Theresa Chang, he has also served in several professional and medical organizations including the Harris County Hospital District Board of Managers, Harris County Medical Society and more recently as the first Asian-American on the Texas State Medical Board. He also served on the Governing Board of Twelve Oaks Hospital and River Oaks Hospital for more than a decade. |
