TEXAS KIMCHI FESTIVAL!

Kimchi represents Korea's best known food. Koreans serve kimchi at almost every meal, and few Koreans can last more than a few days before cravings get the better of them. During the 1988 Summer Olympic Games, thousands of foreigners were introduced to it for the first time. Despite a reputation for being spicy, most people usually develop a taste for it. The Texas Kimchi Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22 at HCC Town & Country Campus. For more information, click here.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!   The Year of the Pig

The Lunar New Year dates from 2600 BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Lunar New Year, a large celebration for Vietnamese and Chinese residents, falls on Feb. 18 this year. The exact date shifts each year because the lunar calendar is based on cycles of the moon, rather than the sun, but it usually begins in late January or early February. If you were born in 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983 or 1995 - you were born under the sign of the pig. Famous people born in the Year of the Pig include Lucille Ball, Thomas Jefferson, Ernest Hemingway, Alfred Hitchcock, David Letterman, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
